Apple has been trying to keep scantily-clad women out of the iPhone app store. It’s a hypocritical crackdown, with apps from Playboy and Sports Illustrated given a free pass. And it’s going to ruin the iPad for magazine content.
Apple’s ongoing war on porn gets some notice in the New York Times today, with the paper pointing out that Apple has banned apps like Dirty Fingers, where a woman in a bikini “cleans” your iPhone screen, while allowing an app for SI’s annual swimsuit issue, and one from soft-core monthly Playboy. Here’s how Apple VP Phil Schiller tried to justify this double standard:
Mr. Schiller said Apple took the source and intent of an app into consideration. “The difference is this is a well-known company with previously published material available broadly in a well-accepted format,” he said.

Late last week, Apple notified developer Chillifresh that its Wobble iBoobs application was being removed from the App Store due to its “overtly sexual” nature. Since then, it appears that Apple has gone on a rampage of sex-oriented app removals.

Chillifresh claimed in a Saturday post that a discussion with Apple revealed that more than 5,000 apps have been affected by its new App Store content policy. Apple said the change was triggered by numerous customer complaints, according to Chillifresh.
“Whenever we receive customer complaints about objectionable content we review them,” Apple's Trudy Muller later told CNET. “If we find these apps contain inappropriate material we remove them and request the developer make any necessary changes in order to be distributed by Apple.”

Real Housewife and mother of two Kelly Bensimon is stripping down for the March edition of Playboy. Back in October, Bensimon told PopEater, “I have always had so much admiration for Hugh Hefner… so I would be honored to be a part of it.” Well, her wish has finally come true.
In a recent interview with PEOPLE, the ‘Real Housewives of New York‘ star admits, “When Playboy asked me to pose for them, I was incredibly flattered. But it was a big deal for me to actually take off my clothes for the rest of the world… I’ve never posed naked before.”

Guy Cimbalo Playboy article generates controversy.

Yesterday, Playboy.com posted a provocative story: “So Right It’s Wrong.” The piece was written by Guy Cimbalo, and its premise was to target those conservative women that he would like to, as he put it, “hate fuck.” But if you click on that Playboy.com link, you’ll find the piece is no longer there. And that’s because the blogosphere went crazy after Playboy published it, going so far as to call for a boycott, and Playboy pulled it.
If you want to read the piece in full, conservative blogger Caleb Howe has reproduced it in a series of screenshots here. The piece begins thusly:
Obama promised us the dream of post-partisanship—a cuckoo land where party affiliation and factional animosity were forgotten. Turn on cable news or open any newspaper, however, and you’ll quickly discover that the dream has yet to materialize. But there is a way to reach across the aisle without letting principles fall by the wayside. We speak, naturally, of the hate fuck. We may despise everything these women represent, but goddammit they’re hot. Let the healing begin.
What follows isn’t, well, pretty. It’s a listicle that eviscerates every conservative female that crossed Cimbalo’s radar as someone who was at least in some regard physically attractive and yet whose personal politics he found to be utterly loathsome. The list includes Michelle Malkin, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, Laura Ingraham, and Peggy Noonan.

E! has got the Girls Next Door, but Irish video-game firm Jolt Online Gaming is making the Playboy Playmate experience even more interactive. It plans to launch Playboy Manager, a massively multiplayer online (MMO) casual game that lets players live out the fantasy of managing a group of Playboy (NYSE: PLA) models. Jolt picked up the rights from Playboy; the startup’s CEO and founder Dylan Collins told the Sunday Business Post that it was “the first time that Playboy has come into the online gaming space.”
The free game will pull in videos and photos of real-life Playboy models, though players will be able to pay for upgrades; they’ll compete to get their models in the “top spot” as a Playmate (and a permanent room at the Playboy Mansion). It’s one of three games in Jolt’s roster; Collins told the Sunday Business Post that it has two other titles in development, and that it plans to acquire the rights to more: “We will either do deals with big brands such as Playboy and develop the games ourselves, or we will acquire solid, existing games.” Jolt is backed by private investors and Enterprise Ireland (a government-run business development agency); the startup plans to raise more capital this year. Nevada Governor Affair Allegations: Jim Gibbons Accused By Wife Of Affair With Former Playboy Model

RENO, Nev. — First lady Dawn Gibbons accuses Gov. Jim Gibbons in divorce papers of having extramarital affairs with a former Playboy magazine model and another woman to whom he sent hundreds of text messages last year. The Republican governor has been untruthful about his “infidelity” with the two women, his estranged wife says in a divorce filing, which was unsealed Monday by a court order in Washoe County Family Court.
The governor has insisted both women were just friends. He filed for divorce last May, citing “incompatibility” with his wife. The couple had been married since 1986.
Dawn Gibbons identified one of the women in the documents as Kathy Karrasch, who over several weeks in 2007 received more than 860 text messages from the governor on his state cell phone.
