Virgin Denies Playboy – M and A and Finance @ FolioMag.com

After rumors of his interest in acquiring Playboy sent its stock on a short flight, Virgin Atlantic CEO Richard Branson said today his company has no interest in buying the magazine.
“Reports that Virgin Group is looking to buy Playboy Enterprises are untrue,” a Virgin spokesperson said in an-email to Reuters.
On Wednesday, the Daily Mail reported Branson was “tipped as a potential buyer.” The story followed a report in the New York Post that Playboy was quietly floating an asking price of $300 million, or about three times its market cap, for the company.

MARY-Louise Parker is still sulking over her nude scene from last season’s “Weeds” finale.
She claims that she was “goaded” into doing a scene involving a lingering shot of her naked breasts while she was in a bathtub.
“I didn’t think I needed to be naked, and I fought with the director about it, and now I’m bitter,” the star of the Showtime series says in the June issue of More magazine.

JESSICA Biel — one of the sexiest, most beautiful women in the world — has had bad luck with her latest movies, and hasn’t been seen on the big screen since “I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry” two years ago. Not even scenes of Biel dancing topless as a stripper in “Powder” — co-starring Ray Liotta, Kris Kristofferson, Forest Whitaker and Lisa Kudrow — could get the somber drama a theatrical release. “Powder” is going straight to DVD in June. “Easy Virtue,” based on the Noel Coward play, features Biel as an American divorcée who has a whirlwind romance and marriage to an Englishman, and will get a limited release by Sony on May 22. Most of Biel’s fans will have to wait a few months to see her in “Nailed,” in which she plays a waitress whose brain is accidentally punctured by a nail gun, resulting in weird, lusty behavior with DC lawmaker Jake Gyllenhaal. We can’t wait.

This morning The New York Post appears with an unbelievable cover story-literally unbelievable. Headlined (at least online) as “AXED GALS TAKE POLE POSITIONS: Pros Stripping Amid Wall St. $lump“, the article by Anka Radakovich (one time sex columnist for Details magazine) reports “Scores of professional New York women stripped of their six-figure jobs are now working as “gentlemen’s club entertainers” at upscale Manhattan jiggle joints. Former Wall Streeters, fashion executives and real-estate agents are pole dancing and stripping for as much as $1,500 a night — but also because they like the flexible hours.”
Scores? Scores?!? You mean, like, forty? Forty women who had six-figure incomes earned on Wall Street, the fashion industry and real estate have become strippers in Manhattan? It is, of course, mathematically possible, but I just don’t believe it. By google search, there appears to be no more than a dozen strip clubs in Manhattan. I have no idea how many strippers each club might employ-perhaps some reader could educate me. But 50 would seem like a big number. That would mean there’s about 600 strippers in Manhattan. Did one in 15 of them formerly earn $100,000 in business? Really?
For what it’s worth, the article names two, Randi Newton, once of Morgan Stanley, and Katie Haverton who had been a real estate broker, plus a girl named Becky (no last name given) who had been a pastry chef. One of those nubile, twenty-something, six figure-earning pastry chefs that were all over town before the crash, no doubt. I’d very much like to see the Post produce the other 38.
