Penthouse dancer Leslie Liwanag’s lawsuit: I had to pay jiggle joint to perform there!

A Penthouse dancer claims the famous jiggle joint cheats its performers out of wages, withholds tips and even charges them for the privilege of working there, according to a lawsuit filed Thursday in Manhattan federal court.
Leslie Liwanag claims the club takes a 20% slice out of dancers’ tips, makes them buy their own costumes, cheats them out of overtime and makes them pay a fee to perform, according to the lawsuit filed by lawyers Justin M. Swartz and Sonia R. Lin, of Outten & Golden LLP, and Gratienne (Sienna) Baskin, of the Sex Workers Project at the Urban Justice Center.
“The Penthouse Executive Club calls its dancers, the 'most splendid Entertainers from around the world.' If the club appreciates their hard work, it should follow the law and pay its entertainers properly,” Swartz said.

Answer from the Pulp: Of course there is. It comes in the form of Michelle Braun, a notorious “madam” who once supplied Hollywood (the one in California) and South Florida with a bevy of beautiful, high-priced prostitutes from her base in Boca Raton.
Braun recently boasted to the New York Daily News that Woods was a regular client and even identified his favorite call girl (a Playboy bunny). While facing federal criminal charges in California recently, she was represented by none other than the law firm of Rothstein Rosenfeldt Adler. Her criminal attorney was Marc Nurik, the same lawyer now representing Rothstein on his federal racketeering, money laundering, and fraud charges.

Braun also used Rothstein’s firm to help her open several Florida corporations, with names like The Girls of Ocean Drive LLC, Dirty Vodka LLC, and the BlueJean Mafia Management. Braun’s lawyer in those endeavors was RRA attorney Kari Rosenfeld, whose representation of Braun predated that of Nurik’s (and whose tiny photograph is at left).The companies’ corporate addresses were listed under the same address Rothstein used for many of his corporations in Tallahassee.

This week, a panel of judges and lawyers got together to debate a major injustice in today’s legal system: Lady lawyers and their sexy sartorial choices. It seems some male lawyers think their female counterparts have an unfair, fail-safe argument: “Exhibit A: My breasts. Exhibit B: Check out these gams. Aaand, I rest my case.” It’s a wonder male councils ever win!
“I’d really like to pay attention to your argument,” (but your breasts are getting in the way)
During the Seventh Circuit Bar Association meeting on Tuesday, a panel discussion was kicked off very reasonably: A judge raised the issue of professional dress and pointed to the example of a female lawyer who showed up in court wearing a velour tracksuit. (She won the case, by the way.) Then the panel’s conversation shifted “from schlubby to sexy” attire, as the New York Times puts it. Judge Michael P. McCuskey said he’s seen women in court wearing “skirts so short that there’s no way they can sit down, and blouses so short there’s no way the judges wouldn’t look.” Judge Benjamin Goldgar concurred by sharing his wish that he could tell certain female lawyers: “I’d really like to pay attention to your argument” (but your breasts are getting in the way).
Things remained civil during the meeting, but all hell broke loose online. On the Web site for the American Bar Association Journal, a woman sassed: “I’m sorry, Sugar, I’d love to listen to what you’re saying, but I have a penis. As such, I am only able to use one sense at a time.” She added: ”What garbage! Poor men can’t control themselves, so women have to respond.” A male reader shot back, “Yes, please ladies, by all means use your sexuality to get what you want (after all, that’s the only excuse you have for dressing in the manner described in this article).” And in a final escalation, Susan J. Koniak, a law professor at Boston University, told the Times that if revealing skin in the courtroom is such a problem, “we should just have a bag when we walk in, a burqa.”

Obscenities Fly In “Skank” Hearing The Big Money

Joshua Plaut slumped in the back of Manhattan’s Supreme Court today, waiting for the judge and seemingly willing this whole affair to go away quietly. He hailed from the New York powerhouse law firm Wilson Sonsini, and Google was paying him top dollar to do as little as possible. The search giant, whose founders cling to their “Don’t be evil” motto like guns and religion, had found itself in the middle of a tabloid frenzy, a courtroom drama pitting a statuesque Vogue model against an anonymous blogger who had decided the world needed to know she was nothing but a dried-up strumpet. For a company that prides itself on ennobling the world in between bouts of record-breaking quarterly profits, this was grief Google didn’t need.
Last August, someone set up a Google blogger account and used it to create the blog Skanks in NYC, complete with photographs of New York model Liskula Cohen partying with her friends, as well as a few captioned observations about her sex life, age, and mental state. A horrified Cohen promptly got herself a lawyer and sued Google, seeking to force the company to divulge all identifying information the blogger provided when he or she registered the blog. The anonymous defamer’s attorneys challenged the suit, insisting that federal law protects their client’s online speech. Today, both sides met in court to duke it out.
The courtroom scene was Google’s worst nightmare. On the one hand, the company has come under fire for collecting personal information from its users and storing it for months; if Google gave up the blogger too eagerly, its worst critics would have another barb with which to accuse it of playing fast and loose with its customers’ privacy. On the other hand, who wants to be seen protecting some nasty, small-minded, cowardly gossip?
