Free porn on ‘tube sites’ puts a big dent in industry – USATODAY.com

SAN FRANCISCO — The adult-entertainment industry is in a tailspin, shattering the notion that it is one of the few recession-proof industries.

The slump is especially stinging because technology — which helped adult-entertainment enterprises reap riches through innovations such as video streaming, webcameras and online payments — is contributing to the misery.

DVDs and online pay sites, which make up the majority of porn-related sales, are in a free fall largely because of the rise of so-called tube sites.

The “groundbreaking sex robot” is neither groundbreaking nor a true robot.

By Veronica BelmontPosted Thursday, Feb. 4, 2010, at 9:32 AM ET

Usually when I write about a new tech product, I like to have a little “hands-on” time with the device. Perhaps fortunately, that’s not the case with the Roxxxy TrueCompanion, the latest in high-tech sex toys, unleashed at this year’s Adult Entertainment Expo in Las Vegas. While I was next-door at the Consumer Electronics Show, checking out the latest in 3-D televisions and e-book readers, Roxxxy was making waves with sex industry professionals and robot bloggers alike.

Creator Douglas Hines believes his “sex robot” to be the most realistic in existence, with several different personality modes built into each unit (Mature Martha, Frigid Farrah, Wild Wendy) that can be further tailored and shared with other users online. It also has software that responds to touch and offers audio feedback based on activity. While the technology inside of Roxxxy is very intriguing, I’m more curious about how artificial intelligence in the bedroom will change how we real humans view sex.

Starting at $7,000 and topping off at $9,000, depending on how customizable you’d like your doll, Roxxxy isn’t priced low enough to achieve mass-market adoption—any plans to add sophisticated electronics to your existing sex routine are probably a few years off. But as the technology advances and the prices of parts drop, we’ll begin to see more devices out there like Roxxxy. With such advanced sex toys readily available, could a real woman’s role in the bedroom become obsolete?

Depictions of Female Orgasm Being Banned by Classification Board

Federal government censors are directing Customs officials to confiscate depictions of the female orgasm when it is accompanied with an ejaculation. The Classification Board is also starting to classify films that feature female ejaculation as Refused Classification rather than X. Films that show both male and female ejaculation have routinely been given an X rating since 1983. The new ruling follows a boom in the numbers of adult films featuring female ejaculation since the pioneering research of Professor Emeritus Beverly Whipple was published in her book The G Spot. Recent articles in the New Scientist and on Norman Swan’s Health Report on ABC radio have raised public awareness of this largely hitherto unknown aspects of female orgasm.

The films are being banned (Refused Classification) on one of two grounds:

1) That the depictions are a form of urination which is banned under the label of ‘golden showers’ in the Classification Guidelines or

2) Female ejaculation is an ‘abhorrent’ depiction

Why Men Like Porn

As it turns out, men are pretty much hard-wired to like watching — or reading about — other people having sex. Here’s why they do it — and why it’s probably ok.

By Matt McMillen

Reviewed by Louanne Cole Weston, PhD

Most nights, after his wife, Kate, had gone to bed, Tom surfed the Internet for porn. Kate learned about this during their second session of couples therapy. Despite Tom’s claims that his nocturnal habit had nothing to do with their love life, she worried he preferred porn to having sex with her.

That’s a common reaction. “Often, one partner has a porn interest, and the other thinks that’s a problem,” says Russell Stambaugh, PhD, an Ann Arbor, Michigan-based psychologist and sex therapist. “It rarely is. The best studies suggest that only about 5% of porn users have a problem that interferes with their daily life.”

That’s good news, because a lot of people look at porn. According to the May 2004 Tracking Survey by the Pew Internet & American Life Project, 26% of male Internet users visited adult websites (only 3% of women went to these sites). In 2006, the porn industry raked in nearly 13 billion dollars.

Sex Toys That Will Change Your Life / Violet Blue: Can a sex toy change your life? For many, the answer is yes

ad hominem

Having an orgasm used to be so arduous and difficult, it’s no wonder many old people have never had one, or if they have, they seldom talk about it or tell their spawn about having one. In times of yore, before YouTube videos and electricity, rubbing one out was akin to deciding to make a trip from New York to San Francisco in a covered wagon. You could get halfway there, but if something broke down and it was winter, you might have to eat something horrifying to make it out alive. With your pants down, bandits could attack you at any moment. There were vibrators, but they were made of wood and powered by pedaling, or frightened rodents running in little exercise wheels. Everything had to be done by hand. There was no lube until 1910, so if the friction didn’t kill you, fire was always a concern. You had to use corncobs as freshwipes. People had to make their own amateur porn.

The horrors of the past are mostly behind us. Now that we’re more civilized about our sexuality, we no longer have to suffer achieving orgasms through primitive methods, carving our dildos out of root vegetables or whatever porn starlets did in caveman times. Now we have technology. Now we have plastic. We have batteries. We have bandwidth. And fortunately, we have handcuff keys.

And this has all changed the way we, er, come together. And not necessarily for the holidays. Sex toys are now, for many people, life-changing items. When I idly asked the Twitter and the Facebook what sex toys had changed people’s lives, I didn’t expect the overwhelming response; now that people are more sexually sophisticated they’ve traded shame for sexual savvy, and over a hundred people stepped right up to volunteer to me which toy, when used with amour, made their view of the world a little brighter.

Tera Patrick dishes on her divorce – NYPOST.com

Adult film star Tera Patrick gave her porn star hubby Evan Seinfeld an ultimatum — their marriage or his steamy screen career — and he chose porn, she claims. In her new memoir, “Sinner Takes All,” Patrick recounts how she told Seinfeld, her husband of seven years, last summer that he had to give up starring in X-rated films if he wanted to stay married to her. Patrick herself had not shot a new video since 2006. After Seinfeld chose the flicks, the couple split in September.Writes Patrick: “I said to Evan, ‘I’m your wife, and that is the strongest bond two people should have, and that should come first. I’ve moved on from porn. And I want you to stop. You promised me you’d only do porn for a few years. Your few years are up.’ “

Carla Gugino: Being beautiful is a ‘wonderful thing and a liability’ | pbpulse.com

at the Tribeca Film Festival, April 2007
Image via Wikipedia

Carla Gugino has played a wide range of women in her career, but never a porn star. Now, thanks to her longtime boyfriend, filmmaker Sebastian Gutierrez (Snakes on A Plane, Gothika), she gets her chance in the dramedy Women in Trouble.

Gugino doesn’t get any sex scenes, but she does appear in lingerie, as do most of the other actresses. Parade.com’s Jeanne Wolf found out from Carla why the female cast members were ready to strip down to the bare essentials.

Maybe his accent helped.

“There is no one besides Sebastian Gutierrez that could get all of us in this movie into our underwear and still have us be OK with it. I think it’s his European sensibility and style, even though he was born in Venezuela. In countries like France, Spain and Italy, women are celebrated for their physical beauty, but they also can be strong and complex. This film is a celebration of the complexity of women. It’s like, do not judge a book by its cover. You may think you know a porn star, but you’re going to get to see a whole other side of her.”

Why she stayed away from the real thing.

“There’s a level of darkness that’s involved in the world of adult filmmaking, and I didn’t think it was going to help me to really delve too much into that. I did talk to some porn actresses and I checked out the book by Jenna Jameson, who sort of turned the whole scenario into a bestseller. I’m just not a big fan of porn movies. I want them to be sexier. And being an actress, I’m always critiquing the production and going, ‘The lighting is terrible. Her make-up is bad.’ I’m not the best audience.”

Masturbation: 5 Things You Didn’t Know

Experts talk about whether masturbation is safe, normal, or can lead to sexual dysfunction.
By David Freeman
WebMD Feature
Reviewed by Louise Chang, MD

Experts say that just about every man who can masturbate does — and why not? You don’t need an expert to tell you that solo sex feels good, relieves stress, and is a terrific sleep aid. But here are five things you may not know about masturbation:

1. There’s no such thing as “abnormal” masturbation.

Men often wonder if there’s something abnormal about the way they masturbate. But experts are loath to offer specific definitions of “normal” and “abnormal,” pointing out that men show great variations in both frequency and technique. “We humans are too diverse to establish a norm,” says Betty Dodson, PhD, a New York City-based sexologist and the author of Sex for One. Every man masturbates in his own way, says Martha Cornog, the author of The Big Book of Masturbation, whether he “uses his hands, rubs against something, uses a sex toy or household object, wears special clothing, fantasizes, looks at a book or magazine, tries different positions, or looks in a mirror.”

2. Masturbation is very safe — but not entirely safe.

Unlike sex with a partner, masturbation can’t give you a sexually transmitted disease. Nor will it subject you to the muscle strains, pokes in the eye, and awkward moments that can come with partner sex. But masturbation safety isn’t guaranteed. “Masturbation is just about the safest sex there is,” says Cornog. “But the laws of physics and biology don’t stop operating just because someone is masturbating.”

Teravision signs new contract star

( News release: VAN NUYS, CA ) – Teravision is thrilled to announce the signing of its newest contract star, Lupe Fuentes. The stunning Spanish siren has made a name for herself as a mainstream model and internet phenomenon. Already an international star in her own right, she is ready to take on the adult industry in a whole new way. Previously known as “Little Lupe,” she made herself a teen model sensation, but is now all grown up and ready to take her career to a whole new level.

“I am still relatively new to the business,” admits Lupe. “And I wanted to be associated with the number one star in the industry Tera Patrick. I want people to see that I am grown up and ready to be a glamour girl. I have been quite successful in my home country and like Tera have had a lot of mainstream success. I am a very sexual girl and I am ready to shine like a star.”

Teravison has big plans for Lupe and will begin shooting her first movie for the company later this month. Her debut for the company will be called “Innocence Lost” and will be directed by award-winning director Eli Cross. His previous movies, “Corruption”, “Upload” and “Icon” have collected 18 AVN Awards and he has high expectations for both Lupe and “Innocence Lost.”

“I’m thrilled to be working with Teravision,” says Cross. “Tera & Evan have put together one of the top companies in the business and I know we can do some really great things together.” He continues with high praise for Teravision’s new contract star. “I am very excited to direct Lupe’s first movie, she is incredibly hot and has amazing sexual charisma. Lupe is so bright and shiny and new, I can’t wait to make her do a lot of really dirty things.”

Lupe FuentesTera is more than excited to have Lupe on board. “When I first laid eyes on Lupe she took my breath away,” Tera says of Lupe. “She is the epitome of the petite, exotic sex kitten that men dream of. When I met her she stole my heart. Her mix of elegance and innocence bring something unique to the table. We here at Teravision expect great things from Lupe.”

Dan Davis, Editor of Genesis magazine has his praise for Lupe as well. “Lupe is nothing short of drop-dead gorgeous and like the rest of the world, we can’t wait to see this girl captured by the Teravision cameras in action. We know she’ll fit into their ‘glamcore’ mold perfectly.”

Teravision is currently designing a new web site for her, http://www.lupefuentes.com/ and is in pre-production for her first three movies, “Innocence Lost”, an interactive title directed by Axel Braun and a third project to be announced later. The first movie will hit stores in September and will coincide with the launch of her totally redesigned website.

For mainstream and print work, Lupe can be contacted through LA Direct Models.
