It’s been quite an eventful morning in Brett Favre news. Let’s get right into it.

- Deadspin reports that Brett Favre sent former FSU cowgirl and current TV personality Jenn Sterger pictures of his dong while she was a Jets sideline reporter. Editor AJ Daulerio has apparently spent some time trying to woo Sterger into giving up the goods: creepy voicemail messages from the married quarterback and the dong photos themselves.

Make no mistake, this Sports Illustrated photo spread of Olympic skier Lindsey Vonn is definitely supposed to make you think of sex. The other day sports blogger Nicole M. LaVoi caused a bit of an online stir when she accused Sports Illustrated of oversexualing when they put on the cover, fully clothed, in a downhill skiing position. As I noted at the time considering this was a position skiers are required to take in order to ski it was hard to see the source of the outrage: “Is this maybe a case of the viewer seeing what they want to see? I mean if they had her posed in a bathing suit and lord knows I wouldn’t necessarily put it past them then, yes, the author would very much have a point.”HA. Turns out we didn’t have to put it past them! Behold this week’s Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue featuring an entire spread of Lindsey Vonn half-naked 45 pictures in all. Nicole M. LaVoi was merely a week ahead of the game. Here’s what she has to say about the latest development Vonn is one of four female athletes pictured in bikinis in the issue, by the way.

There are some pretty unusual sports in the Olympics — skeleton, anyone? — so it’s understandable that some fringe athletes would think their particular talent deserving of inclusion, too. But “sport” isn’t generally the first word that come to mind when one thinks of pole dancing — and the words that do? Well, they aren’t super family-friendly.

Nonetheless, a petition is circulating to get the discipline into the Olympics and it’s already netted roughly 4,000 signatures. Much as this might seem like a sexy publicity stunt (not that pole dancing really needs the added attention) the organizers behind the push appear incredibly earnest. Ania Przeplasko, founder of the International Pole Dancing Fitness Association, told the Associated Press: “There will be a day when the Olympics see pole dancing as a sport. The Olympic community needs to acknowledge the number of people doing pole fitness now. We’re shooting for 2012.”

In an article that appeared Wednesday in Slate, Hanna Rosin examines the fraught world of sexuality for female athletes. Her central comparison is between skier Lindsey Vonn, who recently posed for Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue, and “pixie” figure skaters “whose notion of sexy involves sparkly outfits and blue eye shadow.” Among other conclusions, Rosin declares that, for women, the trope “assigned to skiers (female gladiator) is far preferable to the one assigned to skaters (tragic nymph).”

But throughout the article are a number of arguments that left me wondering who ran over Rosin’s foot with a 1/8-inch blade and left her with a grudge against skaters. After saying that at least Vonn’s sexuality is preferable to that of the figure skaters, she writes, “Watching pairs skating these last few nights has reminded me of what the figure skating narrative is all about: tender young fawns gliding to maudlin music, getting thrown around, and landing on frail ankles. The vibe is more Virgin Suicides than professional sports and is thus, from the teach-your-daughters point of view, problematic.”

I don’t have a daughter to teach, but here are a few lessons I think the young figure skaters could impart: grace under pressure, dedication to a goal (in an increasingly instant-gratification world), the power of dreaming big, and that beauty, femininity and physical strength aren’t mutually exclusive. Also, though Rosin is speaking to the narrative and not the facts, saying that the skaters are “getting thrown around” is downright offensive to these athletes, who have crazy muscle control and power, not to mention a risk-taking spirit. Plus, that description doesn’t hold up in individual skating, where the women are clearly their own driving force for those whiplash jumps.

(News release: PHILADELPHIA, PA ) Adult performer and entrepreneur Travis Knight is ready to throw his hat into the Celebrity boxing ring. Knight, a ten year veteran of the adult film world, has gone toe to toe with some of the hottest women on the planet in over 350 scenes. Now he will take on a different challenge when he climbs between the ropes for a Celebrity Boxing Federation match with reality TV star Gervase Peterson in Philadelphia on April 3rd.

The CBF sought out Knight for the tournament and originally wanted him to fight Lindsay Lohan’s father. Plans changed when Lohan turned the bout down due to the size discrepancy between the two fighters. Peterson, who starred on the first season of “Survivor” was brought in as a replacement.

Peterson is a full five inches taller than Knight who doesn’t seem worried. “I’m ready for whatever he’s going to bring,” says Knight. “I didn’t know who he was until I looked him up on the internet. When I’m done with him he won’t be any different from anyone else I have stepped into the ring with. We’ll see who survives this.”

Knight’s wife Gina Lynn will serve as his manager and will be a ringside. “They called Travis at Skin and it was something he wanted to do,” exclaims Gina. “It is something fun and they aren’t trying to hide the fact that he’s an adult performer. Travis is also doing this for a very worthy cause.”

He will boxing for his sp onsor Skin, but he will be donating his proceeds to the widow of Philadephia police officer John Pawlowski. The office was killed outside of a nightclub on Feb ruary 13th while Knight and Lynn were inside celebrating her birthday.

“He was a young officer who left behind a pregnant wife.” Says Knight. “We have been collecting donations at our Skin store. I am proud to be able to do whatever I can to help.”

Celebrity Boxing 7: Hollywood Showdown takes place on April 3rd at 8pm at the Philadelphia Airport Ramada, 75 Indusstrial Hwy. Essington, PA (Doors open at 7:30pm)
