One weekend in the summer of 1999, a package arrived with a hand-printed message scrawled on the envelope. My hands trembled a little. It said, “A letter from your FIRST girlfriend!”
No way. Could it be my junior high school flame? Last time I saw Miss Thing, she was on the back of a bike heading to Sturgis.
No, this package was from a different kind of girlfriend, albeit with a similar radiance— a sex symbol who was an equal trigger for my teenage nostalgia.

While training for an upcoming film, I’ve come to this conclusion: chin ups are near impossible and lunges suck. There is no magic wand to wave over oneself to look good in a latex catsuit. Eating healthy and getting fit is about commitment, determination, consistency and the dedication to self-preservation. While I’ve never been considered a gym rat, I have, in fact, worked up a sweat in the name of cardio before, and although I enjoy a grilled cheese as much as the next person, I combine the not-so-good foods I crave with an all-around balanced diet.
People come in all shapes and sizes and everyone has the capability to meet their maximum potential. Once filming is completed, I’ll no longer need to rehash the 50 ways to lift a dumbbell, but I’ll commit to working out at least 30 minutes a day and eating a balanced diet of fruit, vegetables and lean proteins. Pull ups, crunches, lunges, squats, jumping jacks, planks, walking, jogging and push ups are all exercises that can be performed without fancy trainers or gym memberships. I’ve realized through this process that no matter how busy my life may be, I feel better when I take a little time to focus on staying active. We can all pledge to have healthy bodies no matter how diverse our lifestyles may be.
Since dedicating myself to getting into “superhero shape,” several articles regarding my weight have been brought to my attention. Claims have been made that I’ve been on a strict workout routine regulated by co-stars, whipped into shape by trainers I’ve never met, eating sprouted grains I can’t pronounce and ultimately losing 14 pounds off my 5’3″ frame. Losing 14 pounds out of necessity in order to live a healthier life is a huge victory. I’m a petite person to begin with, so the idea of my losing this amount of weight is utter lunacy. If I were to lose 14 pounds, I’d have to part with both arms. And a foot. I’m frustrated with the irresponsibility of tabloid media who sell the public ideas about what we should look like and how we should get there.

EA sent me a copy of The Godfather II for the PlayStation 3 last week. A Godfather trilogy fan, I was excited to see how the game would turn out.
After escaping from Cuba, I was ordained the Corleone family‘s New York boss and set out to take over some turf. The first place I was told to capture was a bordello. I had to make it clear to the owner, through violence, that I was now in-charge. After a short drive, I walked through the “front” business and proceeded into the brothel. I was greeted by a woman offering me sexual favors. But there was something special about this prostitute. Unlike the dozens I’d seen in the Grand Theft Auto series, this one was topless.
It wasn’t the first time a woman has been shown nude or partially nude in a video game. Nudity in gaming dates back all the way to the Atari 2600 when Mystique, a “Swedish Erotica” video game developer, started making adult titles for the console.

Oh Amazon, how you’ve failed us. The online retailer came under fire this weekend for deranking a long list of books they’ve suddenly deemed “adult” material. Among the books deemed too adult to appear on searches and best seller lists on the site? Hundreds of lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and transgender books, including Gay Life And Culture: A World History, Heather Has Two Mommies, and The Lesbian Parenting Book: A Guide To Creating Families And Raising Children.
Over the course of the weekend, however, it became clear that the gay and lesbian community wasn’t the only one being targeted—books focusing on sex and feminism also lost their ranking, including Full Frontal Feminism by Feministing’s Jessica Valenti, and many of the erotica titles edited and written by Frisky contributor Rachel Kramer Bussel.
Other books that have been deranked? Lady Chatterley’s Lover, Sex and the Single Girl by Cosmo‘s Helen Gurley Brown, Ellen DeGeneres: A Biography, My Horizontal Life: A Collection Of One Night Stands by Chelsea Handler, Running with Scissors by Augusten Burroughs, Rubyfruit Jungle by Rita Mae Brown and The Mayor Of Castro Street: The Life And Times Of Harvey Milk. Jezebel has kept a running list of many of the titles.
